Bathroom Radio
65Having a bathroom radio opens up a whole new world of fun in the bathroom, there is nothing better for perking up one's mood and getting them ready for the day like singing along with their favorite songs whilst enjoying their morning shower. Bathing in the evening is usually a soothing, relaxing experience that washes away the stresses of the day and nothing could compliment this ritual more than with a radio for the bathroom. If you like hearing the morning news, but don't have time to watch the television while getting ready for work in the morning, why not listen to current events on the radio while showering?
There are several different varieties of radios for the bathroom to meet different needs. Some radios are waterproof and can be put in the shower itself, while others are mounted to the bathroom wall, or set on a shelf out of the water. Radio for bathroom that are designed to be used in the shower itself are battery operated. While this makes portability limitless, it does present the need to occasionally change out the batteries as they die. Some models of shower radio are standard, simple AM/FM radios, while others have a greater variety of options.
Some bathroom radio systems have a CD player that can be used even in the shower. These players have a watertight seal over the disc compartment that prevents water from seeping in and ruining the CD and electronics. Something to keep in mind about any bathroom shower radio: water resistant does not mean waterproof. An occasional splash is not likely to damage the device, but never submerge a bathroom radio. Not only could this destroy the radio and render it unable to function, but it could also shock or electrocute you.

Other bathroom radios, such as the Sony ICF-CD73W, feature weather bands
as an additional radio channel. This is an excellent benefit to have as
important weather information could be relayed while you are in the
shower -- a place where you are very vulnerable and could potentially
miss the broadcast. Some valuable functions of the Sony model include an
ability to preset 5 different radio station for quick access to all
your favorites, a CD player, a countdown timer to help keep you on
schedule when you're in a hurry, and an LCD clock. Like some other
bathroom radios, the Sony is not only battery operated, but has a DC
jack to be able to use an AC adapter for plugging into the wall.
There
are also options available for using your personal MP3 players with a
bathroom radio. Some use sealing technology much akin to the CD player
style, allowing you to bring your MP3 player into the shower, and have
it at hand to change songs, as you like. The idea of bringing expensive
music players into the wet and steamy environment frightens some people,
even with a sealing radio. For those who would rather keep their MP3
players in a dryer environment there are docking station style bathroom
radios. Smartak makes a version of this style of bathroom radio that
operates by transmitting a signal over 100 feet from the docking station
itself, to the portable speaker that is brought into the shower with
you. The device works with any music player that has a 3.5mm audio
output (a standard mini-jack - most personal MP3 players utilize these
for headphones). The speaker is waterproof (a decided step-up from water
resistant), wireless, and has a handy hooking shape that allows it to
be hung from the shower nozzle, shower rod, towel rack, or a number of
other things. The sound quality from the bathroom radio system speakers
is excellent, even if there are obstacles such as walls between the dock
and speaker. The volume control is on the speaker, giving another
degree of separation between the water and your personal electronics.
